Huskers Drop Final Home Meet to Missouri

Lincoln - The Nebraska swimming and diving team lost a 175.5-124.5 decision to Missouri on Saturday afternoon at the Devaney Natatorium. The dual loss dropped the Huskers to 3-4 on the year in duals, while Missouri won its fourth straight dual and improved to 5-5 on the year.

Missouri started the meet out strong, winning the first four events. The Huskers battled back, taking the next three events, with wins by Hailey Dean in the 100 Breast (1:04:54), Blaine Hoppenrath in the 200 Fly (2:05.36) and Jess Andrews in the 50 Free (24.15).

Nebraska made it four straight event victories when Courtney Jolly

won the three meter dive during the first diving break by the slimmest of margins, as her score of 313.51 on the board narrowly edged out Missouri’s Kendra Melnychuk’s score of 313.43.

Andrews recorded Nebraska’s fifth straight event win with a victory in the 100 Free with a career-best time of 51.40, as she swept both sprint freestyles on the day.

Missouri proved to be too strong for the Huskers down the stretch, however, as they took six of the final seven events to seal the victory.

Nebraska said goodbye to five seniors after the meet, as C.J. Bray, Courtney Jolly, Jenna Stroud, Jenny Toler and Christina Yemm all participated in their final home meets as Huskers.

The Huskers will be in action again on Feb. 25-28, as they will travel to Columbia, Mo., for the Big 12 Championships.
