Session 4: Grushecky Sets School Record in 100 Fly

Columbia, Mo. - Kelsey Grushecky set a school record in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 54.32, swimming the fifth-fastest time in the field and earning a spot in the A Finals on Friday night. Nebraska qualified 14 total finalists, including three A Finalists, during the Friday morning preliminary session at the Big 12 Championships in Columbia, Mo.

400 IM
Blaine Hoppenrath beat her career-best time in the 400 IM by nearly seven seconds as she swam it in a time of 4:23.72, qualifying her for the B Finals race that will take place Friday night. Christina Yemm also set a season-best time of 4:28.42, as she qualified for the C Finals. Freshmen Riley Seidel and Bobbi Balogh also swam career-best times in the event.

Kelsey Grushecky set a school record with her time of 54.32 in the 100 Fly, and earner herself a spot in the A Finals Friday night, as she swam the fifth-fastest time in the field. Mariah Hutchinson also set a new career-best time of 55.03 and qualified for the B Finals. Jess Andrews beat her career-best by over a second as she qualified for the C Finals and Meredith Matthies also set a new career-best time, finishing just outside the qualifying times.

Jenny Toler narrowly missed a spot in the B Finals, but instead took the first spot in the C Finals in the 200 Free after swimming a career-best 1:50.47. Five of the six other Huskers who swam 200 Free also set new career-best times.

Kaitlin Arntz and Hailey Dean both qualified for the A Finals of the 100 Breaststroke, as each swam career-best times. Arntz was the third-fastest in the field with a 1:02.29, while Dean came in seventh with a 1:02.76. Colleen Criss and Sarah Ziegelmann each qualified for the C Finals, and Bailey Bolinske finished one spot outside the top 24.
