Huskers Shoot for Pride at GARC Championships

The Nebraska rifle team is officially eliminated from NCAA Championships contention, but the squad will still compete in one more competition before season's end. The Huskers, who finished just outside the top eight teams who are invited to the NCAA Championships, will finish their season at the Great American Rifle Conference Championships in Oxford, Miss., this weekend.

The Huskers will face stiff competition, as three of the eight competing teams - Army, Kentucky and West Virginia - have qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Although the Huskers' streak of five consecutive NCAA Championships appearances has come to an end, the team is optimistic about its final opportunity to compete this season. With no seniors on this year's team, the experience at the conference championships will be important as the team builds for 2009-10.

"I know the girls are really motivated to prove something at GARCs," Head Coach Morgan Hicks said.
