Huskers Improve to 6-0 With Win Over WVU

Lincoln ? The Nebraska women's tennis team moved to 6-0 on the season with a 6-1 win over Big East foe West Virginia on Friday afternoon at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The Huskers dropped only their second point of the season, as they have outscored their opponents 40-2 in their first six matches of the season.

The Husker doubles teams once again dominated, winning all three matches. Nebraska has yet to lose a doubles match all season, and NU took a 1-0 lead into singles play.

Nebraska won in straight sets in each of the first five singles positions. Madeleine Geibert earned her fifth win at the No. 1 spot with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Olga Elkin. Mary Weatherholt won her 22nd match of the year, including the fall, with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Wiveca Swarting reached 20 wins on the year as well, winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

Jana Albers won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles to move to 6-0 this spring. Jennifer Holmberg, who hadn't been in the singles lineup since the first match of the season against Creighton, won at No. 5 singles 7-5, 6-2. Nebraska's only loss on the day came at No. 6 singles, as Stephanie Evans fell in a third-set supertiebreaker to Ashley Pilsbury, 6-2, 4-6, (10-5).

The Huskers open up Big 12 conference play on Sunday as they take on Iowa State at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The match will mark the end of a seven-match homestand for Nebraska to start the season, as they travel to Wichita State next week for its first road match. First serve on Sunday is at 11 a.m.
