Huskers Finish Second at NCAA Qualifier

The Nebraska rifle team capped its regular season with a second-place finish at its NCAA Qualifier in Murray, Ky., on Saturday. NU posted a team score of 4,584.

Jacksonville State led the way at 4,671. Murray State, Tennessee-Martin and Tennessee Tech followed the Huskers.

Christine Costello led the Huskers with a combined total of 1,160. Costello scored a season-best 585 in air rifle, and contributed a team-best 575 in smallbore. Amanda Jeffries also shot 585 in air rifle, and Ryann McGough was close behind at 583.

Ashley Lane, although not factoring into the team score, scored a 570 in smallbore, good enough for second place on the squad.

NU will now wait to learn its NCAA Championships fate. The NCAA will announce in the coming weeks the field of eight teams that will participate in the Championships in Fort Worth, Texas from March 13-15. Before that happens, the Huskers will compete for the GARC crown at the GARC Championships in Oxford, Miss., Feb. 27-March 1.
