Irving, Texas ? Junior Kylie Stone was honored as Big 12 Gymnast of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. She was recognized for the third-straight week this season and the fourth time in her career.
Stone, an All-American on vault, took the bars (9.825) and floor (9.925) titles, tying her career best on floor, to help No.12 Nebraska to a 195.325-194.625 win over No. 17 Penn State. The Calgary, Alberta, native also placed second in the all-around (39.275) and matched her season high on vault (9.85) for runner-up honors. Stone is ranked 16th in the nation in the all-around and third on floor.
In addition, Iowa State’s Ceilia Maccani and Oklahoma’s Melanie Root were honored as Big 12 Co-Event Specialists of the Week. Maccani captured the beam title with a career-high score of 9.85 at No. 20 Michigan, helping No. 18 Iowa State to a season-best beam total. Root won the first event title of her collegiate career with a 9.875 on vault, pacing No. 7 Oklahoma to a 196.50-195.675 win over 21st-ranked Minnesota.
The Huskers will face Root and the seventh-ranked Sooners as Nebraska hosts Oklahoma this Sunday, Feb. 8 in a conference dual. Competition is set to begin at 2 p.m. at the Devaney Center.
