Huskers Host First Home Dual
The Nebraska swimming and diving team hits the pools this weekend for its first regular-season competition in over a month this Saturday in a home dual against Kansas. The meet marks the first dual at home for the Huskers this season as well as NU’s first Big 12 competition of the year. Nebraska will be looking for its second straight dual win after securing its first win against South DakotaState in a 176-119 victory on Dec. 12.
The Huskers had a successful training trip in San Diego over the holiday break. The team competed in the UC Irvine/Ayres Relay Invitational in Irvine, Calif., where they took first place in the seven-team meet. The Huskers won seven out of the 10 relays and set two meet records, in the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay.
The Huskers will have next week off before completing their final two away meets of the year on Jan. 30 and 31. Nebraska travels to in-state foe Nebraska-Omaha on the 30th before heading to Ames to take on IowaState on the 31st. NU’s next home meet will be its final of the regular season, a Feb. 7 dual against Missouri.
Scouting the Jayhawks
The 7-2 Kansas Jayhawks have won five straight dual meets dating back to a Nov. 7 win over Drury. Kansas also took first place at the Kenyon Invite during their five-meet win streak.
The Jayhawks have been dominating their opponents during their five-meet win streak. They have scored no less than 132 points while their opponents have scored no more than 97 points in their five wins.
The Huskers are 11-19 all-time against the Jayhawks. Last year, NU fell to Kansas 99-197 in Lawrence.
Review: Huskers Take First at UC Irvine Relay Meet
The Nebraska swimming team took first place at the seven-team UC Irvine/Ayres Relay Invitational on Jan. 4 in its Holiday Training Trip competition. The Huskers won seven out of the 10 relays on their way to 423 team points, beating second-place San JoseState by 23 points. NU set meet records in the 200 free relay (1:36.16) and the 400 free relay (3:29.62).
The Nebraska divers were also in action over the school’s holiday break, taking part in the Tennessee Diving Invitational in Knoxville. Courtney Jolly took 11th place in the three meter dive with a score of 247.75, while she just missed making the finals of the one meter dive, as she finished 14th in the prelims with a score of 242.10. Emily Burbach came in 39th in the one meter with a score of 198.80 and 17th in the three meter with a score of 248.50. Nearly 100 divers competed in the Invitational over the weekend.

The Nebraska women’s swimming and diving team earned its first dual meet victory of the season with a 176-119 victory over South DakotaState on Dec. 12 in Brookings, S.D. The Huskers won 11 of 16 events en route to the win.
Junior Mariah Hutchinson led the way for the Huskers, earning three first-place finishes on the evening, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:38.18), the 50-yard freestyle (24.96) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.55). Sophomore Meredith Matthies claimed two victories, including the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.30) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.42).
Senior Courtney Jolly set the pool record with a score of 294.65 on the one meter dive, setting a new team-high for the season in the one meter as well. Jolly also won the three meter dive to sweep the diving events.
Other winners on the day include Jess Andrews (200 Free), C.J. Bray (50 Back), Caroline Shea (200 Back) and the 400-yard medley relay team.
20 Huskers Set Career-Best Times at Texas Invite
Twenty different Huskers set career-best times at the Texas Invitational on Dec. 4-6, and a total of 24 set season-best times. Nebraska finished eighth out of 15 teams in the competitive Invitational which featured six top-25 teams. Jess Andrews (50, 100 & 200 Freestyle), Hailey Dean (50 Freestyle, 100 & 200 Breaststroke) and Meredith Matthies (50 Freestyle, 100 & 200 Butterfly) each set three career-best times , while Katlin Arntz (100 & 200 Breaststroke), C.J. Bray (50 & 100 Freestyle), Claire Desormey (100 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly), Mariah Hutchinson (100 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly) and Rachell McClain (200 Backstroke, 200 IM) each set two career-best times. All five Husker relay teams also set season-best marks.
Jolly Named Big 12 Diver of the Week
Nebraska diver Courtney Jolly named the Big 12 Diver of the Week on Wednesday for competition through Nov. 24, the league office announced. The senior from Plantation, Fla., secured the award after earning an outstanding showing at both the Minnesota Diving Invitational and the Husker Invitational.
Jolly competed in a total of six diving events in the Minnesota Diving Invitational and the Husker Invitational, taking first place four times and second place twice in those six events. Jolly also set career bests in the three meter (319.42 at Minnesota Invite) and platform (250.25 at Husker Invite) during the time.
Jolly won the one and three meter dives at the Minnesota Invite, with scores of 283.50 and 319.42, respectively, while taking second on the platform with a score of 221.47. The following weekend, Jolly won the one meter (274.45) and platform (250.25) and finished second on the three meter (307.80) at the nine-team Husker Invitational.
The honor marks Jolly’s second career Big 12 Diver of the Week award, as she also won it almost exactly a year ago on Nov. 22, 2007.
