Huskers in the NFL - Divisional Playoffs

Lincoln - A total of eight former Huskers hit the field this weekend in the NFL’s Divisional Playoffs. Six of the eight former Huskers contributed to their teams winning, moving one step closer to the Super Bowl. The Big Red has had at least one representative at 11 of the last 12 Super Bowls.

 

In New York, Correll Buckhalter, Chris Patrick and Stewart Bradley helped the Philadelphia Eagles reach next weekend’s NFC Championships game with a 23-11 win over the Giants. Bradley contributed 11 tackles (seven solo) as the Philly defense forced three turnovers, including two interceptions of quarterback Eli Manning. On offense, Buckhalter carried the ball five times for seven yards, while also catching three passes for 19 yards. With the NFC Championship appearance next week, it will be the Eagles’ fifth appearance in the conference championship in the last eight years. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. (Central) on FOX.

 

Philadelphia will travel to Arizona where they will face former Husker defensive back Ralph Brown and his Arizona Cardinals. Brown was part of an Arizona defense that pressured Carolina into six turnovers, including five interceptions by quarterback Jake Delhomme in Arizona’s 33-13 win. Brown has intercepted a pass in three straight games. Brown’s two interceptions in the postseason are one better than his total for the entire 2008 regular season. Arizona held Carolina to 269 yards of total offense, holding the two-headed running back monster of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart to just 75 yards.

 

Fabian Washington and Sam Koch moved the Baltimore Ravens onto the AFC Championship game next weekend where they will face the Pittsburgh Steelers. Washington totaled seven tackles (five solo) on the day while also recovering one of Tennessee’s two fumbles in a 13-10 win over the Titans. The Titans’ three turnovers, which all came with Tennessee in scoring position, overshadowed the Titans’ 391 yards of total offense, the most Baltimore had allowed all season. Koch was busy on the day with eight punts for 342 yards, with two punts landing inside the 20-yard line. The Ravens and Steelers are scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. on CBS. The Steelers swept the Ravens in the regular season, winning at home, 23-20, in Week 4 and at Baltimore, 13-9, in Week 15.
