Peetz and Jamani Named to All-Region Team

Lincoln-Nebraska’s Carly Peetz and Aysha Jamani were recently named to the National Soccer Coaches Association’s All-Central Region team. The duo earned third-team accolades for the first time in their careers. Teams were chosen by a vote of select coaches from the Central Region.

A native of Lincoln, Peetz continued her stellar play in Nebraska’s defense in 2008, starting all 20 contests. A central defender, she helped the Huskers post five shutouts on the season, including back-to-back shutouts during NU’s eight-game unbeaten streak. Offensively, she notched a career-high three points with the game-winning goal and an assist against Missouri on Sept. 28. The junior also led the Huskers to a victory over Oklahoma on Oct. 24 with her second game-winning goal of the season.  Peetz finished the season with six points on two goals and two assists. She was named second-team All-Big 12 on the field and first team in the classroom.

Jamani finished her Husker career in the fall by leading Nebraska to a 10-9-1 record from her midfielder position. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, her season was highlighted by a two-goal performance, including the game-winner, in a 3-0 NU win over North Dakota State on Sept. 19. She also notched the game-winning score in Nebraska’s 2-1 upset of No. 8 Texas on Oct. 3. Jamani ended the season second on the team in shots (49) and shots on goal (22), while racking up nine points on three goals and three assists. She earned first-team All-Big 12 honors on the field and in the classroom during 2008.

Peetz and Jamani are the first Huskers to earn All-Central Region honors since Brittany Timko was named to the first team in 2006. Nebraska has not had multiple honorees on the all-region team since 2004.
