Charlottesville, Va. - Junior Wiveca
Swarting of the Nebraska women’s tennis team
was knocked out of the National Indoor Tournament in Charlottesville, Va.,
on Friday. Swarting lost two matches against the No. 6 and No. 3 player in the
country, but was extremely competitive in both.
On Thursday, Swarting faced the nation’s sixth-ranked player, Northwestern’s Maria Mosolova, in the first round of play. Swarting fell 6-2, 6-3, but held her own against one of the country’s top players.
In Friday’s consolation round, Swarting faced third-ranked and defending NCAA singles champions Amanda McDowell of Georgia Tech. Swarting played well, and with a few more points could have pulled off the upset, but ultimately fell to McDowell 7-5, 7-5.
The loss ends what has been a very successful fall season for both Swarting and the rest of the Husker squad. Nebraska kicks off its spring season on Jan. 30 with a home dual against in-state foe Creighton.
