Team USA Splits First Two Contests

The United States Olympic Baseball Team is 1-1 after its first two games, losing a heart-breaking 8-7 contest to South Korea in the opener before rebounding with an 11-0 whitewash over the Netherlands early Thursday morning.

Former Husker Brian Duensing saw his first action in of the Olympics against South Korea, retiring all four hitters he faced, including a pair of strikeouts.  Trailing 6-4, Team USA scored three times in the top of the ninth to take the lead, only to see South Korea come back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame for the victory.

Duensing pitched at Nebraska from 2002 until 2005, helping the Huskers to a pair of College World Series appearances. He is currently in Triple-A with the Minnesota Twins organization.

Team USA is in action again tonight (Friday in China) as they take on Cuba beginning at 10:30 p.m. (central). The game will be shown on the USA Network Friday morning in the 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. slot.
