Falcon Finishes Second in 5K at Junior Olympics

Omaha, Neb. ? Nebraska cross country and track and field distance runner Peter Falcon finished runner up at the 2008 USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships in the 5,000 meters on Thursday, July 25. His time of 15:17.49 was just seven seconds behind Michael Williams, who was competing for Peak Distance and ran a time of 15:10.31.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

Falcon is a native of Bellevue, Neb., where he attended Bellevue West High School. He will be entering his sophomore season with the cross country team after lettering as a true freshman in 2007. He competed in five meets, including a 67th-place finish at the Big 12 Championships. On the track he competed in five meets during the indoor season, before redshirting the outdoor season.

The 42nd Annual USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships are being held at Burke High School in Omaha, Neb. Many of today's Olympic stars began their track and field careers competing in the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships. The nearly 6,000 athletes compete in six different age divisions; bantam (born 1998 and later), midget (born 1996-1997), youth (born 1994-1995), intermediate (born 1992-1993) and young men/women (born July 27, 1989-1991).
