Lincoln ? Nebraska’s incoming freshman class has been rated as one of the best in the country by Prepvolleyball.com’s John Tawa. The four-person freshman class was tabbed the sixth-best class in the country by the publication. It marked the sixth straight year that the Huskers have been ranked in the top 10 among recruiting classes.
The freshmen members of the 2008 recruiting class included outside hitters Jordan Haverly (Cherry Valley, Ill.), and Kaitlynn James (Louisville, Ky.), middle blocker Allison McNeal (Schulenburg, Texas) and setter Brigette Root (Grand Island, Neb.). All four players garnered all-state honors in 2007, and McNeal (No. 4), James (No. 13) and Haverly (No. 20) were all rated among the nation’s top-20 seniors by Prepvolleyball.com
The rankings do not take into consideration setters Sydney Anderson (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Jessica Yanz (Bollingbrook, Ill.) who joined the Husker program as transfers. Both players were former Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 selections and were their state’s Gatorade Player of the Year as seniors. During their senior years, both were also ranked among the nation’s top 2006 seniors by Prepvolleyball.com, with Anderson ranking No. 10 nationally while Yanz was the No. 23 senior in nation as a senior.
The Huskers begin team drills next month and will open the 2008 season at the Runza/AVCA Showcase in Omaha Aug. 29 and 31. Tickets for the Huskers’ matches against Stanford and USC are on sale now through Ticketmaster.com or by calling Ticketmaster at (402) 475-1212 in Lincoln or (402) 422-1212 in Omaha.
