Reimers Earns Academic All-America Honors

Lincoln - Nebraska women’s tennis player Imke Reimers earned first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors, when the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) released its Women’s At-Large team on Thursday, June 12.

Reimers, a native of Papenburg, Germany, became the first two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American in Nebraska’s women’s tennis history, after capturing second-team honors following her junior season in 2007.

Reimers earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics from the University of Nebraska in May after carrying an impressive 3.98 grade-point average. She was a three-time first-team academic All-Big 12 Conference selection, and claimed a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll in all eight of her undergraduate semesters at Nebraska. She plans to continue her education by pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Minnesota in August.

Along with her remarkable success on the court, Reimers capped one of the most successful careers in Nebraska women’s tennis history in 2008. She finished her career ranked No. 1 on NU’s career doubles victory list, and No. 2 in both the career singles wins and combined victories. Reimers became just the third Husker to ever advance to the NCAA Singles Tournament in 2007, and was twice named to both the All-Big 12 Singles and Doubles teams.

Reimers earned Nebraska’s sixth CoSIDA Academic All-America award of the 2007-08 academic year, pushing the Huskers’ nation-leading total to 259 Academic All-Americans across all teams and all sports.
