- UC Irvine improved to 41-16 this season with the win. The Anteaters are 10-6 all-time in NCAA Tournament play and have won NCAA Regionals in back-to-back seasons. UC Irvine, which was making its third straight regional appearance, has now won six consecutive NCAA Regional games after posting a 3-0 record at the 2007 Austin Regional.
Overall, UC Irvine has won five games in a row and seven of its last eight. - UC Irvine also improved to 35-0 this season when leading after seven innings and 38-0 when leading after eight innings.
Starting pitcher Bryce Stowell struck out the side in the fourth and sixth innings as part of his career-high 13-strikeout performance. As a staff, UC Irvine finished with 14 punch-outs, marking its 22nd double-digit strikeout performance of the season. In two games against Oral Roberts, Irvine posted 27 strikeouts, as the Golden Eagles struck out a then-season high 13 times on Friday and a season-high 14 times on Sunday. - The shutout was UC Irvine’s ninth of the season, which matches its total from last season and is tied for the most shutouts in a single-season since the program was re-instated in 2002.
- On the weekend, UC Irvine totaled 34 strikeouts, an average of 11.33 strikeouts per game.
- Casey Stevenson finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a career-high three runs scored. The championship game performance capped a terrific NCAA Lincoln Regional for Stevenson, who went 7-for-9 in the Anteaters’ three victories.
- UC Irvine’s eight-run margin of victory marked its fourth-largest victory of the season and its largest since an 18-1 victory at Loyola Marymount on May 14.
- Ben Orloff, Ollie Linton, Sean Madigan, Daniel Bibona and Bryce Stowell were all named to the NCAA Lincoln Regional all-tournament team. Stowell was also named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
