The top-ranked Nebraska bowling team claimed second place after four qualifying games at the 2008 NCAA Bowling Tournament at Thunder Alley in Omaha, Neb. NU rolled a total pinfall of 3,872 in the morning session, which consisted of four traditional-style games.
Vanderbilt was the powerhouse throughout first round, rolling a total pinfall of 3,924. As Vanderbilt headed into the fourth game, the Commodores led the Huskers by 135 pins. However, Nebraska closed the gap on Vanderbilt by 83 pins at the end of the fourth game.
Nebraska's Cassie Leuthold (sophomore) and Lindsay Baker (senior) topped the individual standings. Leuthold placed first with a 216.75 average, while Baker placed second with a 209.25 average. Freshman Jasmine Laugerman also placed eighth with a 198.75 average.
The eight championship teams will compete in five Baker-style games this afternoon to determine the total pinfall for the day. The final pinfall for all teams will be used to seed a double-elimination tournament tomorrow, Friday, April 11. Tournament play will start at 9:30 a.m. Central.
