Birmingham, Ala.-The No. 1 Nebraska bowling team picked up its sixth tournament title of the season at the Holiday Classic in Birmingham, Ala., on Sunday afternoon. The Huskers topped the competition with a total pinfall of 10,505.
Freshman Katie Ann Sopp rolled to her first tournament title of the season with a career-high pinfall of 224. Sopp has finished in the top-10 every meet during the 2007-08 season. With Sopp’s tournament title, the Huskers have had four bowlers earn top awards in seven competitions.
Senior Lindsay Baker earned a fourth-place finish with a season-high score of 221, while freshman Jasmine Laugerman claimed ninth with a score of 213. Cassandra Leuthold placed 20th with a score of 200.5.
The Huskers will have a two-week break before traveling to Nashville, Tenn. for their final event of the season at the Music City Classic. NU will then wait on a bid to the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Omaha, Neb. on April 10-12 at Thunder Alley.
