Every Game to Be Broadcast for the First Time in School History
Lincoln ? Baseball fans across the state of Nebraska will be able to follow the Huskers from the first pitch of the season to the final out, as the Nebraska Athletic Department and Husker Sports Network announced Thursday the most extensive broadcast schedule in school history.
Every regular-season game will be heard on Huskers.com and available to Husker Sports Network stations across the state. The broadcast schedule begins on Friday, Feb. 22, as the Huskers travel to national power Stanford to begin a four-game series with the Cardinal. First pitch of the 2008 season opener is slated for 4 p.m. (central) ? the first of 55 regular season games this spring.
The broadcast team of Greg Sharpe, Lane Grindle and Adrian Fiala will bring fans all of the exciting action this season.
“We are very excited about this schedule,” Nebraska Head Coach Mike Anderson said. “This has been a long time coming and I want to thank the Husker Sports Network for their time and effort on this deal. Our fans have been clamoring for this, and we think the Husker Sports Network has hit a home run for our fans.”
“Baseball is a natural for radio, and today’s announcement allows our fans across the state a chance to follow our journey throughout the year and be a part of the experience,” Anderson said.
The Husker Sports Network has also greatly expanded its baseball network, as a total of 27 stations will carry games around the state, including KLIN 1400 AM in Lincoln, KFAB 1110 AM in Omaha and KRVN 880 AM in Lexington. Both KFAB and KRVN are 50,000-watt stations and combine to reach most of the Midwest. Nebraska will be one of only a small handful of schools around the country ? and the only program in the Big 12 ? with its own baseball radio network.
In addition to the radio broadcasts, the Husker Sports Network will also carry Coach Anderson’s weekly radio show. The hour-long show airs across the state from 7-8 p.m. (central) on Monday nights beginning March 17.
The Husker Sports Network is in its 12th year producing and marketing live broadcasts of University of Nebraska football, men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball games. The Husker Sports Network was first awarded the rights on Feb. 9, 1996. The University renewed the Husker Sports Network contract on Aug. 9, 2003, for an additional five-year term that runs until July 31, 2011.
