Lincoln - The Nebraska women's basketball team will tip off its February home schedule with a frenzied Sunday of activities at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Feb. 10, including "Pack the House", "Think Pink" and "Red Cross Day" promotions.
Nebraska's Sunday showdown with the top-25 Oklahoma State Cowgirls will be part of ESPN's "February Frenzy" with live national "whip-around" coverage on ESPN2 that includes a special 1:15 p.m. tip time. The whip-around version of the coverage means that the Huskers vs. Cowgirls will be one of eight women's games televised that day with live "look-in" coverage of all the games.
The best way to see the entire game if you're a Husker fan is still to be live and in person at the Devaney Center, and Nebraska is giving fans plenty of reasons to cheer the Huskers to a home win.
NU's game with OSU will be part of the Big 12 Conference's "Pack the House" weekend, a conference-wide initiative to sell out all of its weekend home games. Big time attendance is nothing new to the Big 12, as it has been the national leader in attendance for eight consecutive years. In fact, in each of the last two seasons, more than 1 million fans have attended women's games around the Big 12.
In addition to the "Pack the House" promotion, the Huskers' game with the Cowgirls will be part of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) "Think Pink" initiative. Around the nation Feb. 8-17, college women's basketball teams will be focusing their efforts on building cancer awareness and raising funds to fight cancer.
Nebraska plans a visual show of its support by donning white base uniforms with special pink trim to go along with pink adidas shoes. The Huskers will also wear their white and pinks when they play Sunday, Feb. 17, at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence against the Kansas Jayhawks.
The Huskers' game sponsor, Runza, has joined in support of both the "Pack the House" and "Think Pink" promotions by distributing thousands of game tickets across the state. Runza donated 1,500 tickets to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to distribute to its cancer survivor list. $1 of every Runza sold at the game will also be donated to the Komen Foundation.
Runza also offers fans a great way to get their tickets to the game at convenient locations throughout the city of Lincoln. A total of 7,500 tickets are available at Runza locations across the city for Husker fans to pick up while purchasing their favorite Runza foods.
Fans who would like to support the American Red Cross will also have their opportunity to contribute on Sunday, during the Red Cross "Pass the Bucket" campaign at the Devaney Center.
