Annual Suits and Sneakers Game Set for Feb. 2

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Lincoln ? When the Nebraska men’s basketball team hosts IowaState this Saturday, Feb. 2, the coaching staffs for both teams will be making an unusual fashion statement. The staffs will join their coaching counterparts across the country by wearing sneakers with their suits as part of the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend set for Feb. 1-3.

The annual event is one way for coaches across the country to show their support in the fight against cancer and raise awareness about the importance of cancer prevention and early detection.

The Nebraska men’s basketball program will go beyond just wearing sneakers this year. At the Feb. 2 game vs. ISU, a silent auction will be held, featuring adidas sneakers signed by members of the team and coaching staff. All proceeds will go directly to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org). The silent auction will take place on the northwest upper concourse of the DevaneyCenter. Bidding will begin 90 minutes prior to tip off and close at the end of halftime.

In addition, representatives for the American Cancer Society will be on hand with information on ways people can reduce their risk of cancer, including eating right, exercising, making healthy lifestyle choices and recommended cancer screening guidelines.

The SoutheastNebraskaCancerCenter (www.senhoc.com) has also provided 300 tickets to cancer survivors and their families in the Lincoln area.

Coaches vs. Cancer is a joint effort by the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (www.nabc.org) that empowers basketball coaches, schools and communities nationwide to help fight cancer. Since the program began in 1993, more than 500 coaches have raised nearly $40 million to help fight cancer.

Husker fans can join the fight against cancer any time. For more information about the American Cancer Society and the Coaches vs. Cancer program, call 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit www.coachesvscancer.org.
