Huskers Drop First Big 12 Dual

Lawrence, Kan. ? Following an undefeated home season, Nebraska went on the road to open the Big 12 slate, dropping a 197-99 contest to the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Huskers were unable to collect any wins on the day, but had 10 runner-up finishes, including a pair from Kansas native Mariah Hutchinson.

 

The sophomore from Topeka was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.11) and 500-yard freestyle (5:01.00), while also taking third in the 400-yard individual medley (4:38.66).

 

Sophomore Hailey Dean (100 breaststroke, 1:06.61), senior Lynn Siemert (50 freestyle, 24.25), junior Jenny Toler (100 freestyle, 53.00), freshman Kelsey Grushecky (100 butterfly, 57.90), junior Courtney Jolly (one meter diving, 252.97) and junior Christina Yemm (400 individual medley, 4:35.60) all took runner-up finishes as well.

 

Nebraska’s second Kansas native, freshman Meredith Matthies, took third in the 100-yard butterfly (59.85) and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.53).

 

Nebraska will take a week off from action before returning to the pool Saturday, Feb. 2 against the Iowa State Cyclones. The 1 p.m. meet from the Devaney Natatorium will be Senior Day for the Huskers, honoring Adrienne Goodman and Lynn Siemert.
