Nebraska-Wichita State Postgame Notes

  • With the win, Nebraska advances to regional play for the 14th consecutive season, the nation’s longest streak. The last time the Huskers failed to make an NCAA Regional was in 1993, when NU lost in the second round. Hawaii held the nation’s second-longest active streak at nine straight regionals, but lost to Middle Tennessee State tonight.
  • Nebraska pushed its NCAA Tournament win streak to eight in a row with the victory. The Huskers have now won 13 of their last 14 matches in postseason play dating back to the start of the 2005 NCAA Tournament.
  • Nebraska has won 39 of its last 40 overall, dating back to November of 2006.
  • With the victory, NU improved to 72-22 (.765) all-time in the NCAA Tournament. The Huskers own the second-most wins and second-best winning percentage among all schools in the nation in NCAA Tournament play.
  • The match was played before Nebraska’s ongoing NCAA-record 106th consecutive sellout at the NU Coliseum. Attendance for the second round was 4,056. Nebraska is 100-6 at home during the sellout streak.
  • NU’s final season average is 5,140, the second best in school history. It marks only the second time in school history NU has averaged 5,000 fans per match.
  • The win was Nebraska’s 72nd consecutive home win, a school record and the third-longest in NCAA history. Nebraska is 45-4 (.918) all-time at the NU Coliseum in the NCAA Tournament.
  • The Huskers’ senior class of Tracy Stalls and Sarah Pavan  finished their career with a 72-1 home record, including a perfect 18-0 mark this season.
  • The victory also gave the senior class the most wins ever in a four-year stretch at Nebraska with 125. Pavan and Stalls are 125-6 at Nebraska.
  • *-The sweep marked the 26th time in 30 matches this season that the Huskers have swept their opponent.
  • Sarah Pavan finished with 15 kills to lead NU for the 20th time this season. Pavan also improved her Nebraska NCAA Tournament record for career kills to 270.
  • Tara Mueller set a career high in kills for the second straight night. Mueller posted her career-high sixth kill midway through game two and finished with nine, while hitting .316 on a career-high 19 attacks.
  • Jordan Larson tied her career high with five aces for the second straight match. Larson now has 51 aces on the season, good for 10th on the NU single-season list. Larson’s 10 kills through the first two postseason matches also tie for second in Nebraska’s single-season NCAA Tournament history. Larson has a school-record 30 aces in the postseason.
  • As a team, Nebraska established a season-high with 11 aces, one night after setting a then-season high with 10 aces against South Dakota State in the first round.

 

 

Wichita State Notes

  • Wichita State finished its season with a 27-6 overall record. Making their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the Shockers dropped to 2-2 all-time, with all four matches coming at the NU Coliseum and both losses coming to Nebraska.
  • The sweep was just the second suffered by WichitaState this season, as the Shockers had previously only been swept by Cal Poly on Aug. 26.
  • The Shockers finished the season winning 20 of their last 22 matches, with their two losses coming to IllinoisState in the MVC Tourney semifinals and to Nebraska in the NCAA Tournament.
  • The Shockers 27 wins tied for the second-most wins in a season. The Shockers accumulated 28 wins in 2005 to set the single-season high.
  • Wichita State lost the first game for just the sixth time in 33 matches this season and fell to 1-5 overall when dropping the first game of a match.
  • Kelly Broussard collected 12 digs against Nebraska and ended the season with 628, a new single-season WichitaState record.
  • Emily Stockman had 38 attacks against NU to finish the season with 1,215, good for seventh on the WSU single-season list. Stockman also moved up to fifth on the single-season kills list with 459.
