Goodman Leads Huskers on Day Two

Austin, Texas ? Senior Adrienne Goodman came up big in her final Texas Invitational by finishing 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:05.04 during day two of the three-day competition Friday in Austin, Texas. Nebraska is in sixth place with 158 points heading into the last day of the meet Saturday.

 

Goodman had missed the B Final cut by one spot during the prelim session, but a scratch allowed the Ballwin, Mo., native to compete in the finals event, where she improved four places. Sophomore Kaitlin Arntz joined Goodman in the race, finishing 16th in a season-best time of 1:05.80, while sophomore Hailey Dean won the C Final to finish 17th (1:04.02).

 

Junior Christina Yemm earned a 16th-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley (4:33.16) after she also gained a B Final qualification following a scratch. A pair of freshman ? Blaine Hoppenrath and Rachel McClain ? swam in the C Final, finishing 19th (4:37.76) and 20th (4:47.89).

 

Nebraska sets its third and fourth season-best relay times in as many tries during Friday’s finals session. First, the Huskers turned in a mark of 1:46.45 in the 200-yard medley relay to finish 10th (sophomore Kelsey Ida, sophomore Kaitlin Arntz, freshman Kelsey Grushecky, senior Lynn Siemert), while the 800-yard freestyle relay (junior Jenny Toler, freshman Kelsey Grushecky, freshman Julie Giehl, senior Mariah Hutchinson) shattered its season-best with a time of 7:38.14 to gain a solid fifth-place finish in the final event of night.

 

On the boards, freshman Mariesa Cloud finished 12th on the one meter with a score of 230.60.

 

Nebraska will compete in the final day of the Texas Invitational on Saturday. Prelims begin at 10 a.m., while finals at 6 p.m. will conclude the meet.
