Session 5: Nebraska Extends Lead at Husker Invitational

Lincoln ? The Nebraska swimming and diving team has mounted a 166-point lead on the six-team Husker Invitational field after winning seven of eight finals events during Session 5 on Saturday evening at the Devaney Natatorium.

The Huskers had seven qualifiers in the A Final of the 200-yard freestyle, with freshman Julie Giehl taking first in a time of 1:52.73. Junior Jenny Toler (1:53.41) and freshman Kelsey Grushecky (1:54.26) gave the Huskers the top-three finishes as they came in second and third.

The event was the third of five-straight wins for NU on the night, which was only halted by ColoradoState’s Michelle Price, who won the 100-yard backstroke.

The Huskers began and ended the session with strong relay events, winning both the 200-yard medley (1:46.84) and 800-yard freestyle (7:44.36) relays. The 800 free relay followed a second-straight win in as many days for diver Courtney Jolly, as she dominated the three-meter dive with a score of 289.30.

Junior Christina Yemm (400-yard individual medley, 4:33.61) and Grushecky (100-yard butterfly, 56.88) provided wins for the Huskers prior to the 200-yard freestyle, while sophomore Hailey Dean followed Giehl’s 200 free win with a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.
