Huskers Announce 2008 Schedule

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Lincoln ? Head Coach Dan Kendig announced the Nebraska women’s gymnastics team’s complete schedule for the 2008 season on Thursday. NU’s docket includes meets with five of last year’s top 10 nationally ranked teams, as well as 11 opponents from the national top 25.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

In five home competitions at the BobDevaneySportsCenter, the Huskers will feature two Friday night competitions on their slate, as well as 7 p.m. meets on a Thursday and a Saturday, and one Sunday afternoon contest. The team will join the Nebraska men’s gymnastics squad for its only double-dual of the year on March 14.

 

Nebraska opens the year at IowaState on Jan. 11 in Ames, Iowa, then returns to the DevaneyCenter immediately for a Sunday afternoon home opener with ArizonaState on Jan. 13. The Huskers will face NCAA runner-up Utah in Salt Lake City on Jan. 18, followed by a match-up with conference foe Missouri in Lincoln on Jan. 25.

 

After traveling to Norman, Okla., on Feb. 1 to battle Oklahoma, NU will enjoy a two-meet home stand with Michigan on Feb. 7, and Denver on Feb. 23. Kentucky hosts the Huskers in Lexington, Ky., on Feb. 29, followed by a road trip to Palo Alto, Calif., for a triangular with Stanford and national powerhouse Alabama.

 

The Huskers will return to Lincoln for their final home meet of the year with rival IowaState on March 14, then hit the road for their final regular-season meet at PennState alongside Maryland and Rutgers. 

 

Entering the run for a solid postseason showing, NU will travel to Oklahoma for a second time on March 29  to battle at the 2008 Big 12 Championships. The annual conference meet, which Nebraska has won eight times in 11 seasons, is followed by an NCAA Regional on April 12 and the 2008 NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., April 24-26.

 

Nebraska returns five All-Americans to its 2008 squad, led by nine-time All-American senior Emily Parsons. The Huskers also boast seven all-conference performers on their roster.
