Lincoln? Fans who missed last night’s Steve Pederson Radio Show can listen to exclusive interviews with Dennis Poppe and Dan Beebe on Huskers.com.
Poppe, the NCAA’s managing director for both football and baseball, discussed the possibility of a fifth-year of eligibility for student-athletes and a potential early signing period for football.

“I think there is a consensus among the coaches ? and that is the group that I have had most of my discussions with ? and they favor an early signing date (to) put some sanity in the recruiting process,” Poppe said. “The problem is they can’t agree on a date. I think it is something that as time goes one, it will come to fruition, but right now, there are various camps to arrive at what date works best for the sport.”
Beebe, who became the Big 12’s third commissioner last month, shared his vision of the conference with Pederson, Nebraska’s athletic director, and host Lane Grindle.
“I think the way it needs to progress is to ensure that we represent this part of the country well,” Beebe said. “These institutions we serve are world-class institutions in the heartland of the country, and we have to ensure that we present a program in amateur athletics that represents the interests of the people in this part of the country. They want to win and have winning programs, but their values are that they want to do it right. We have to devote our focus in making sure that we are conducting the programs that are done in the right way and with class, like the way it has been done for years at Nebraska, within the rules, graduating student athletes, providing them the services and the benefits they need.”
Fans can listen to the Steve Pederson Radio Show on Husker Sports Network affiliates across the state and on Huskers.com between 7 and 8 p.m. (Central) on Monday nights during the fall and winter.
