Lincoln - The 2007-08 Nebraska men’s basketball team went through its first full-team workout of the season on Friday afternoon, practicing for two hours at the Bob DevaneySportsCenter.
“It was a very relaxed atmosphere,” head coach Doc Sadler said. “But I thought they did an excellent job.”
The Huskers worked on many phases of the game, including full-court pressure, four-on-four drills and basic shooting and passing.
“A lot of the things that we have done without the ball, we actually try to put in a live situation,” Sadler said after the workout.
Starting last weekend (Sept. 15), Division I basketball teams are allotted two hours per week to work out as a team until the official start of practice Friday, Oct. 12. Between the start of school and Sept. 14, the Huskers went two hours per week in groups of four, per NCAA regulations.
With 19 players on the roster, Nebraska looks to have more depth this season, particularly in the post, where the Huskers have five scholarship players standing 6-foot-7 or taller. The Huskers return 2007 second-team All-Big 12 center Aleks Maric, the top returning scorer (18.5 ppg) and rebounder (8.7 rpg) in the conference. Along with five returning scholarship players, Sadler has added eight scholarship newcomers to the roster this season who hope to gain playing time in their first year at Nebraska.
