Nebraska freshman golfer Mike Coatman has been selected as the 2007 recipient of the Virgil A. Parker Scholarship. The award is given to a junior golfer in the state of Nebraska who is not only a top golfer, but also displays honesty and integrity both on and off the golf course. Coatman will be honored at the Nebraska Golf Foundation dinner/fundraiser at the Omaha Country Club on September 24th.
Coatman started in Nebraska's first tournament of the season, the St. Mary's Invitational, on September 10-11. He shot a 230 overall, the third-best score among Husker golfers, and led the Huskers in the second round with an even-par 72.
Coatman attended Lincoln Southwest, where his team won the Nebraska Class A State Championship in 2007. He was an honorary co-captain for the Lincoln Journal Star All-City team. Coatman is also a two-time Nebraska State Junior Match Play champion.
