Pebble Beach, CA - The Nebraska men's golf team endured a rough opening day to their season at the St. Mary's Invitational. The Huskers sit in 17th place after the first two rounds, with a team score of 614. Baylor leads the 18-team field with a score of 581, followed by UAB (585) and Wisconsin (586).
Nebraska was led by freshman Mike Coatman, a Lincoln Southwest graduate. Coatman recorded a second-round 72, the low round for any Nebraska golfer. Coatman heads into the final round tied for 33rd place with a five-over-par 149 (77-72). Trent Price, Mark Pillen and Andrew Wyatt each shot 155 through the first two rounds, to finish the day tied for 66th place. Chris Bruening rounded out the Husker lineup with a 162.
Brad Smith of UAB and Wesley Williams of Baylor each shot 141 and share the tournament lead. Wisconsin's Danny Zimmerman is in third place at 142.
The tournament resumes Tuesday morning, with tee times starting on both the 1st and 10th holes.
