Huskers Zoning in on Opener

Lincoln? The Nebraska football team began fine tuning preparations for Saturday’s season opener against Nevada by going through a 2 1/2-hour practice inside Memorial Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

Head coach Bill Callahan said the Huskers completed good work specifically in the third down and short yardage situations.

“We got a lot of good things done,” Callahan said. “We’re just closing in on our preparations. It was a good practice. I’m really proud of our players and they way they came into it. And I’m really happy with the way they finished.”

The starting place-kicking position is still open for competition, as the coaching staff will continue to evaluate the position in Thursday’s practice.

“It’s going down to the wire,” Callahan said. “We’ll take a look at it again tomorrow. We kicked right after our stretch early in the practice (today) and we’ll kick again tomorrow early and late in our two-minute drill. We’re getting all those phases executed in a competitive environment.”

Callahan also noted that junior running back Cody Glenn practiced on Wednesday, but his status is still day-to-day.

The Huskers will practice Thursday afternoon before finalizing work for Nevada with a Friday walk-thru.
