Huskers Remain No. 1 in CSTV/AVCA Poll

Lincoln ? The Nebraska volleyball team remained No. 1 in the CSTV/AVCA Coaches poll released Monday afternoon. The Huskers, who improved to 2-0 on the year following wins over Tennessee and fifth-ranked UCLA, had a total of 1,495 points and received 55 of the 60 first-place votes. It is the 18th straight poll and 33rd time in the last 34 polls where the Huskers were ranked No. 1 dating back to the start of the 2005 campaign.

Stanford ranked second this week with a total of 1,438 points and collected the other five first-place votes. Penn State, which the Huskers face this Sunday at the Qwest Center in Omaha, USC and UCLA round out this week’s top five. Four Big 12 teams are in the poll this week, including Texas (No. 6), Oklahoma (No. 21) and Kansas State (No. 25).

Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance for Sunday’s 3 p.m. match with Penn State at the Qwest Center, as nearly 11,000 tickets were sold as of last week and the match will not be televised.  Tickets for Sunday’s matches are on sale at Ticketmaster.com, at the Qwest Center Box Office and at Ticketmaster outlets across Nebraska. Sunday’s doubleheader at the Qwest Center also features Creighton taking on No. 18 Cal Poly at 12:30 p.m.

The Huskers will be in action this weekend at the Holiday Inn Downtown Classic. The Huskers will face Creighton on Friday at the NU Coliseum before traveling to the Qwest Center on Sunday to take on Penn State. The tournament wraps up on Labor Day, as Nebraska will face Cal Poly at 5 p.m.
