Lincoln --- Second-year coach Doc Sadler announced Saturday that the 2007-08 men’s basketball roster has been finalized as the Huskers prepare to begin fall classes on Monday, Aug. 27. Among the talented group of athletes competing for the Huskers this season will be five returning scholarship players, eight scholarship newcomers and six walk-ons.
“We’re ready to get started this fall with our returning players and the newcomers,” Sadler said. “This is a good group of players who fit in well with what we’re trying to do on the court and just as important is the fact that they’re good people. We’re looking forward to the season.”
Nebraska will be led this season by senior center Aleks Maric, the top returning scorer (18.5 ppg) and rebounder (8.7 rpg) in the Big 12 Conference in 2007-08. Along with Maric, three other returning Huskers ? Ryan Anderson, Sek Henry and Jay-R Strowbridge -- saw significant action in the starting lineup last year as true freshmen. Joining into the mix this fall is an eight-man recruiting class that ranked among the top 25 classes in the country by several publications, including No. 12 by Van Coleman of CSTV.com and No. 21 by Bob Gibbons of ESPN.com.
Soon after the start of fall term, Sadler will get the Huskers into a workout schedule that will include the NCAA-allowed two hours of individual practice time each week. Full team practices can begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12. Next week on Tuesday, Aug. 28, Sadler will meet with the media prior to the weekly football press conference at which time he will announce Nebraska’s 2007-08 schedule.
