Lincoln ? More than 350 soccer fans braved inclement conditions to enjoy the 13th annual Meet-N-Beat the Huskers Wednesday evening. Wind and lightning forced the free event into the Hawks Championship Center, but Nebraska fans still came out in droves to have fun with the Husker players and coaches.
Youngsters in attendance got the chance to rub elbows with the best as all 31 Nebraska players instructed them in activities. Kids could practice their dribbling or shooting skills before moving onto the juggling or throw-in stations. Parents and players both learned official Nebraska soccer chants, while enjoying free pizza and Pepsi products.
The evening was topped off with free 2007 Nebraska soccer posters and Husker memorabilia which were signed by all the Huskers.
Local soccer aficionados will have numerous chances to catch the Huskers this year, as the team hosts 10 home games at the Nebraska Soccer Field on NU’s campus. The Huskers begin their regular season at home on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 5:30 p.m. versus Northwestern.
Prior to opening its regular-season slate, Nebraska travels to Louisville, Ky., this Saturday, Aug. 25, for the fourth annual Jenna Cooper Memorial Match against Louisville. Kickoff is slated for Noon and live stats will be available on Huskers.com.
