Huskers Meet NU Faithful at Fan Day

An estimated 7,000 fans came out to meet the 2007 <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska football team during the Huskers' annual Fan Day at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 18. Fan Day was just one event in a full day of fun for the Greatest Fans in College Athletics, as the Husker Nation was also invited to tour the Tom and Nancy Osborne Athletic Complex and attend the Red-White scrimmages for both the soccer and volleyball teams.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

For 90 minutes, players and coaches had a chance to chat with the fans while signing autographs and posing for pictures. For the team, the day began with individual and group photos, including a team photo which can be found in the Fan Day photo gallery. Prior to meeting the public, players mingled with their family and had the opportunity to meet groups of Special Olympics athletes from around the state.

As Fan Day concluded, many Huskers made extra time to sign autographs and chat with members of the Husker Nation as they made their way off the field. Fans then had the opportunity to tour Nebraska’s newest championship facilities, which included a peek into the Husker football locker room.

Saturday's activities got under way with the Coach Callahan Charities Fun Run/Walk at 8 a.m. Although football Fan Day is over, fans still have the opportunity to join in the fun. Tours of the Tom and Nancy Osborne Athletic Complex will run until 2 p.m., which is also the kickoff time for the Red/White soccer scrimmage, which is free to attend.

The volleyball team wraps up the day's festivities with their Red/White scrimmage at 7 p.m. Prior to first serve, the team will receive their 2006 National Champion rings and will unveil the new championship banners in the Coliseum. General admission prices for the scrimmage are $10 for adults and $8 for youth and seniors.
