Huskers Begin Second Week of Fall Camp

Lincoln? The Nebraska football team began its second week of fall camp on a scorching Monday afternoon in Lincoln with a 2 1/2 hour practice in full pads inside Memorial Stadium.

“This is an important week for us,” Head Coach Bill Callahan said. “We’re in the second week of camp and we’re hitting a lot of different situational aspects of the game. Today we scrimmaged goal line and we worked on our nickel and sub package more. We got through short yardage. We’ve been in the red zone. We’re going to hit all those phases one more time."

Monday was the Huskers’ fourth day in full pads as the team continues scrimmage work in preparation for their Sept. 1 season-opener against Nevada. As Callahan enters his fourth year at Nebraska, he expects that this season may be the most contact the team has endured this early in fall camp.

“We’ve been fortunate to get through as many scrimmage situations as we have with this amount of contact,” Callahan said. “This is probably the most contact we’ve had in the last three or four years. We’ve really scrimmaged heavily in the last four days.”

Callahan said all injuries have been minor through the first week, adding that junior running back Marlon Lucky, who left practice early Saturday morning, could potentially return to drills Tuesday when the Huskers practice from 3-5:30 p.m.
