Lincoln - Incoming Nebraska women's basketball freshman Dominique Kelley poured in a game-high 24 points to lead the Red team to a 68-54 victory over the Blues in the Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star Game at North Star High School in Lincoln on Monday night.
Kelley, an All-Nebraska guard out of Lincoln Northeast High School, pumped in 13 points in a four-minute stretch midway through the first quarter to help the Reds take control of the game. Kelley buried a trio of three-pointers during the stretch, finishing the game by hitting 10-of-13 shots from the field, including 3-of-4 three-pointers.
Kelley's all-star performance tied a Red squad record that dated back to 1986, and her 24 points came despite sitting out the entire second quarter as part of the Red team's playing rotation.
The 5-7 guard is one of five freshmen joining Coach Connie Yori's Nebraska club for the 2007-08 season, including Canadian Under-19 National Team point guard Kaitlyn Burke, French National Team center Jessica Perriago and All-Texas players Catheryn Redmon and Monique Whittaker. Earlier this summer, Redmon and Whittaker played together in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Star Game in San Antonio.
Nebraska's first official practice for the 2007-08 season will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13.
