Bratislava, Slovakia - Kaitlyn Burke has continued to play well for the Canadian Under-19 National Team at the Women's World Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia, although Canada dropped its last three games in the tournament.
Burke, a 5-7 incoming freshman guard for the Nebraska women's basketball team, scored nine points in Canada's 75-70 loss to Brazil on Tuesday in Slovakia. Burke knocked down 3-of-5 three-pointers against the Brazilians, while adding two rebounds and a steal.
In five games at the U19 Women's World Championships, Burke has averaged 7.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists for the Canadians. She has also connected on 35.3 percent (6-17) of her three-point attempts.
Over the weekend, Burke managed six points by hitting 2-of-6 three-pointers, while dishing out a pair of assists in a loss to Australia. She also scored seven points with one three-pointer and distributed an assist in a 67-60 loss to the Czech Republic.
Burke scored 11 points to help Canada to its first victory at the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women with a 74-72 win over Japan last Thursday. She added three rebounds, three assists and a steal in 20 minutes for Canada. She hit 2-of-3 shots from the field and was a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line in the narrow victory over Japan.
Canada opened the World Championships with a 79-63 loss to Serbia. Burke scored six points and grabbed two rebounds in the opener.
The World Championships are scheduled to continue through Aug. 5.
