Dirksen Releases 2007 Husker Schedule

Lincoln ? The Nebraska men’s and women’s cross country teams will face challenging obstacles this season, as head coach Jay Dirksen has released the Huskers’ 2007 schedule.

Highlighted by the running of the 18th annual Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational on Sept. 16 at Pioneer’s Park, the Huskers will compete in five regular season meets before starting postseason action Oct. 26 with the 2007 Big 12 Championships in Lubbock, Texas.

For the fifth straight year, Nebraska will open the season in Omaha at the Creighton/UNO Classic as it attempts to defend its team titles from 2006. The Roy Griak Invitational (Sept. 29 in St. Paul, Minn.) and Chile Pepper Festival (Oct. 13 in Fayetteville, Ark.) are repeat meets from last year’s schedule, while the NCAA Pre-National Meet is also on Oct. 13 in Terre Haute, Ind., marking the first time NU will compete in the meet since 2004.

Terre Haute will be a popular destination for runners who hope to return a month later for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 19. The qualifying meet, the NCAA Midwest Regional, takes place in Peoria, Ill., on Nov. 10.

Nebraska returns seven women’s and three men’s letterwinners from 2006. The Husker women had its second consecutive fifth-place team finish at the 2006 regional, while the men finished 13th. In conference action, the NU men were 11th and the women were third, their highest Big 12 finish since 1997.
