Brian Lehmann, a highly respected professional in the field of sports nutrition, has been hired as <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska’s new Director of Sports Nutrition. Lehmann comes to Nebraska following six years of work at the University of Tennessee.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
In his role, Lehmann will work with all of Nebraska’s 23 varsity sports and assist student-athletes with body composition/frame analysis, nutrition education, weight gain/loss, meal planning, eating disorders, supplementation and counseling for all Husker athletes. He will also play a vital role in the day-to-day menus at the Performance Buffet, in addition to coordinating meals on the road for all Nebraska teams.
“This is a great opportunity for me to work for a championship athletic department in all sports,” Lehmann said. “The sports nutritionist position at Nebraska allows me the chance to impact our athletes’ performance as well as their overall health. One of the things that excites me most about this position is that it works so closely with both the athletic training staff and the strength and conditioning coaches.”
Lehmann is a Board Certified Specialist in Sport Dietetics via the Commission on Dietetic Registration and a Registered Dietitian via the American Dietetics Assocation.
Since 2005, Lehmann has served as the Sports Nutritionist for both the men’s and women’s athletic programs in Knoxville. Lehmann directed the sports nutrition services for approximately 540 Tennessee student-athletes and also coordinated the menus for the Varsity Inn training table in conjunction with Aramark. Lehmann also implemented a body composition assessment process for all of the Volunteer men’s athletic teams.
=Also, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Lehmann worked as an assistant strength coach and sports nutritionist with the Vols’ men’s athletic program from 2003 to 2005. He began his time in Knoxville in August of 2001 as a graduate assistant in the strength and conditioning department. While at UT, Lehmann earned a master of science degree in human performance and sport studies.
A native of Sabetha, Kan., Lehmann is a 2001 graduate of KansasStateUniversity. He graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree in kinesiology and also a bachelor’s of science degree in the human nutrition honors program. During his time in Manhattan, Lehmann worked as the assistant athletic training table coordinator and an undergraduate strength and conditioning coach.
Lehmann and his wife, Miranda, also a native of Sabetha, Kan., have a 2-year-old son, Eli.
