The Nebraska soccer team recently finalized its competition schedule for the 2007 fall season. The 14th season of Husker soccer will feature 10 home contests at the Nebraska Soccer Field, half of which feature Big 12 opponents.
The Huskers kick off their regular-season schedule on Saturday, Aug. 25 with the fourth annual Jenna Cooper Memorial Exhibition Match at Louisville. The game has been held for the past three years in honor of former Husker forward and Louisville, Ky., native, Jenna Cooper.
Nebraska then returns to Lincoln to start its home slate, beginning with a face off against Northwestern at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2. The remainder of NU’s home opponents include Missouri State (9/7), San Diego State (9/9), Saint Louis (9/21), Florida (9/23), Oklahoma (9/28), Oklahoma State (9/30), Baylor (10/19), Texas A&M (10/21) and Iowa State (11/2).
Nebraska’s road tour in 2007 will include trips to Los Angeles for games against Georgia and Tennessee, as well as traveling to Colorado (10/5), Texas (10/7), Lamar (10/12), Texas Tech (10/14), Kansas (10/26) and Missouri (10/28). NU will spend the majority of its road season in the state of Texas, with regular-season match-ups against Texas, Lamar and Texas Tech, as well as postseason action with the Big 12 Tournament in San Antonio and the NCAA Women’s College Cup hosted by Texas A&M in College Station.
In addition to the typically tough conference competition in the Big 12, the Huskers will also face several daunting opponents in an SEC-heavy non-conference field. Nebraska’s games against Florida, Georgia and Tennessee all feature Southeastern Conference foes, with both Florida and Tennessee advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2006. Other 2007 Husker opponents to see NCAA postseason action in 2006 include Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Colorado and Saint Louis. Of these, Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M and Colorado all advanced to the Sweet 16.
Nebraska finished the 2006 season with a record of 10-7-3 and a fifth-place regular-season showing in the Big 12. The Huskers concluded the spring season at 3-1-1, with wins over South DakotaState, Denver and Colorado.
