ESPN to Televise Nebraska-Wake Forest Matchup

The Atlantic Coast Conference and ESPN have announced that the Sept. 8 game between <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska and WakeForest in Winston-Salem, N.C. will be televised by the network. Kickoff time between the Huskers and Demon Deacons from Groves Stadium will be 11 a.m. (CDT).<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

The announcement of the ESPN appearance guarantees Nebraska’s first three games will be on either ABC or ESPN, with NU’s games against WakeForest and USC televised nationally. Last week, ABC announced that it will air the Huskers’ Sept. 1 opener against Nevada on a regional basis and last month the network indicated it will televise the Sept. 15 matchup against USC to the entire nation in prime time. In addition, Nebraska’s Nov. 23 game at Colorado will be televised nationally on ABC.

 

The ESPN appearance will be Nebraska’s first in the regular season on the network since a 2003 victory at Southern Miss in a Thursday night contest. The Huskers’ only other regular season game on the network in the past decade was a victory over ArizonaState in the 2002 Black Coaches Association Game from Memorial Stadium.

 

The WakeForest game may not be Nebraska’s only appearance on the network this season. The Big 12 Conference recently announced that ESPN will carry five regular-season prime-time games on the network. Those contests will be announced six to 12 days in advance of the game.

 

The game at WakeForest will complete a two-game series that included a 31-3 Husker victory at Memorial Stadium in 2005. Nebraska’s visit to Winston-Salem marks the Huskers’ first-ever road game against an ACC opponent.

 

Game times for the remainder of Nebraska’s 2007 schedule will be announced six to 12 days in advance.
