Huskers Ready for NCAA Opener

Tempe, Ariz. - The Husker baseball team worked out for 75 minutes under sun-splashed skies Thursday afternoon in preparation for Friday’s NCAA Regional opener against UC Riverside.

Head Coach Mike Anderson announced that junior right-hander Luke Wertz will take the hill tomorrow afternoon. Wertz is 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA in 15 appearances and will make his fourth start of the year against the Highlanders

Luke Wertz will go for us tomorrow,” Anderson said. “We think he is the best match-up for us against UC Riverside right now. It was a combination of things. Luke has been our best pitcher for us, but he has not been in the No. 1 spot for us all season. We think that he is our best match-up.”

Fans can listen to all of the action from Tempe this weekend on the Husker Sports Network, including KLIN 1400 AM in Lincoln, KFAB 1110 AM in Omaha and KRVN 880 AM in Lexington, as well as on Huskers.com. The broadcast begins at 3:30 p.m. (central) with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
