Bailey, Todd Earn Big 12 Postgraduate Scholarships

Irving, Texas ? Nebraska swimmer Lauren Bailey and football player Dane Todd were among 24 Big 12 student-athletes who were selected as recipients for the 2006-07 Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarships, announced Wednesday by the Big 12 Conference.

 

The $7,500 grants, which began at $2,500 in 1996-97, are given in honor of the late Dr. Prentice Gautt, a former Big 12 Conference staff member who passed away in March of 2005. The panel for the scholarships consisted of three faculty representatives, one senior women administrator and one athletic director.

 

Both Bailey and Todd were standout student-athletes the past four years at Nebraska. Bailey was a four-time NCAA Championship qualifier for Pablo Morales’ swimming and diving team, while Todd was named first-team All-Big 12 during his senior season as a four-year letterwinner for the Husker football team. Academically, Todd was an Academic All-American in 2006, a three-time First-Team Academic All-Big 12 selection, while earning Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll accolades every semester. Bailey was a two-time First-Team Academic All-Big 12 honoree and was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll six times.

 

In order to receive the scholarship, the student-athlete must have had a cumulative grade point average of 3.5, participated in at least two years of intercollegiate athletics and completed their athletic eligibility. In addition, he or she must also graduate from their institution within 15 months or receiving the scholarship and then enroll in graduate or professional school within two years of graduation.
