Wertz Shares Big 12 Pitcher-of-the-Week Honors

Oklahoma City, Okla. ? Nebraska pitcher Luke Wertz was honored Tuesday night, as he shared Big 12 Pitcher-of-the-Week honors with Texas’ Austin Wood, as the league office announced its final weekly regular-season awards.

Wertz earned the honor after he allowed two runs on eight hits over eight innings in NU’s 4-2 victory over Kansas on Sunday. The junior from Parker, Colo., struck out eight without issuing a walk, as his eight innings and eight strikeouts were the second-best efforts of his career.

Wertz, who also earned honorable-mention All-Big 12 honors, finished Big 12 play with a 3-0 record with a 1.77 ERA, ranking second in both ERA and opponent batting average (.200). This is Wertz’s first weekly Big 12 honor and the fourth by a Husker pitcher during the 2007 season.
