Lubbock, Texas - Nebraska women's tennis assistant coach Hayden Perez was named as the ITA Central Region's Assistant Coach of the Year on Tuesday. Perez was one of eight assistant coaches from the eight ITA regions to win the award.
Perez is automatically qualified for the national award which will be announced on May 22 in Athens, Ga., site of the NCAA Championships. Perez and the seven other regional winners are the semifinalists for the national award.
A native of Abilene, Texas, Perez is in his second season as the assistant coach for the women's tennis team. Perez has spent a total of seven seasons as a collegiate coach, with stints at Florida State, Cameron, Wyoming and Air Force. As a player, Perez earned team MVP honors twice and advanced to the
finals of the Midwest Region Championships in 1996 while playing for
Cameron University. He was ranked as high as No. 17 in singles and
earned a top-five national ranking in Men’s Open Doubles by the United
States Tennis Association. He graduated from Cameron in 1999.
