Two Huskers competed at the NCAA Individual Event Finals on Saturday night, bringing the 2007 season to a close at the University of Utah’s JonM.HuntsmanCenter. Junior Emily Parsons tied for third on vault (9.85) and fourth on floor (9.90), while sophomore Tricia Woo finished 13th on beam (9.6625).<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Parsons, a nine-time All-American and a finalist for the 2007 Honda Award, posted a combined average score of 9.85 on vault in the second of two flights, finishing behind Georgia’s Courtney Kupets (9.9188) and Utah’s Annie DiLuzio (9.8875) and matching Oklahoma’s Brittney Koncak-Schumann. In competing her usual Yurchenko layout full, Parsons was awarded three 9.95s and three 9.90s for an average of 9.925. Parsons also debuted a Yurchenko layout 1 1/2, earning three 9.80s, two 9.75s and a 9.70 for a routine average of 9.775.
On floor, Parsons earned five marks of 9.90 and a 9.85 for an average of 9.90.
Woo, a three-time All-American, finished 13th on beam with a mark of 9.6624 after leading off the second flight on the event. The Milpitas, Calif., native received a pair of 9.70s, three 9.65s and a 9.60 from the judges.
Five-time All-American Michele Zabawa, who qualified for vault finals as a first-team All-American, did not compete in Saturday’s event competition.
No. 6 Nebraska finished the year with a 26-12 record, and four Huskers ? Parsons, Woo, Zabawa and junior Desire’ Sniatynski took home six first- or second-team All-America awards.
