DeBuhr Picks Up National Honor

After being named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday, senior right-hander Ashley DeBuhr tossed a four-hit shutout against IowaState last night before being named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Co-Player of the Week on Wednesday.

DeBuhr shared the first national honor of her career with ArizonaState’s Katie Burkhart.

DeBuhr was a perfect 3-0 last week while allowing just four earned runs in 27.0 innings of work. After not allowing an earned run in a complete-game victory over South DakotaState on Monday, DeBuhr picked up a victory at Creighton on Thursday, before playing a crucial role in the Huskers’ sweep of 11th-ranked Texas over the weekend.

In game one against the Longhorns, DeBuhr allowed just two earned runs while striking out 14 in a career-high 11 innings. She then earned her second save of the season and combined on a shutout by allowing just one baserunner in wrapping up the Huskers’ 2-0 victory with two innings of relief on Sunday.

DeBuhr also enjoyed a big strikeout week, striking out 37 in 27.0 innings, including at least 10 in each of her three starts. DeBuhr struck out 10 against South DakotaState and 11 against Creighton. With her 11 strikeouts against the Bluejays, DeBuhr moved into the No. 2 spot on the NU all-time strikeout chart while becoming just the second pitcher in school history to post 200 or more strikeouts in three consecutive seasons. DeBuhr then added 14 strikeouts in her lone start against Texas.
