Student-athletes selected for this accolade must be at least a sophomore and own a grade-point average of 3.0 or better. They must also have completed one full academic year at the member institution prior to the award and have competed in at least 50 percent or more of the institution’s competitions for the year.
This is the first time since the conference began choosing an Academic All-Conference team in 2001 that <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska has had more than two athletes selected.
T?trault, who recently earned All-America honors in both the all-around and pommel horse at the 2007 NCAA Championships, owns a team-high grade-point average of 3.86 as a mathematics major. He is also a two-time College Gymnastics Association Scholastic All-American, as well as a six-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
Wassung earns his first MPSF academic honor following his final season with the Huskers. The Lincoln East graduate, who is majoring in construction management, helped co-captain Nebraska to its fifth consecutive NCAA Championships berth in 2007. Wassung is also a five-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and was honored this week at the Nebraska HERO Leadership Recognition Breakfast for demonstrating outstanding leadership and citizenship.
Schmidt and Daigle also earn their first MPSF academic honors, Schmidt with a grade-point average of 3.51 in nutrition, health and fitness science and Daigle for his work as an industrial technology education major. Schmidt recently ended his sophomore season on a high note, notching his first All-America award with a fifth-place finish on the pommel horse at the 2007 NCAA Championships in State College, Pa.
These four student-athletes will be recognized at the 2007 Nebraska Women and Men’s Gymnastics Awards Banquet, which will be held on Sunday, April 29 in Lincoln.
