Huskers Begin Busy Week with Iowa
The Nebraska baseball team looks to build off the momentum of a series win against No. 13 Oklahoma State, as the Huskers play five games over a six-day stretch. The week begins Tuesday night, as the Iowa Hawkeyes come to Lincoln. First pitch on Tuesday is at 6:05 p.m. - the only 6:05 p.m. home start of the year - and general admission tickets can be purchased by visiting Huskers.com, calling the NU Ticket Office at 800-8-BIGRED or at the Hawks Field Ticket Office beginning 90 minutes before each game.

Radio broadcast of all five games this week will be carried on selected Husker Sports Network stations across the state, including KLIN 1400 AM in Lincoln, KFAB 1110 AM in Omaha and KRVN 880 AM in Lexington and for free on the Internet at Huskers.com. Live video and stats will also be available.

The Huskers begin the week with a 19-12 record after taking 2-of-3 games over the nationally ranked Cowboys last weekend. Nebraska, which has won seven of its last 10 contests, has warmed up at the plate in recent games, hitting .323 as a team in that stretch to raise NU’s batting average to .288. The Huskers have also reached double figures in runs three times in that span.

First baseman Andrew Brown and designated hitter Jeff Tezak both bring double-digit hitting streaks into Tuesday’s tilt with Iowa. Brown, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Week, is hitting .405 with seven doubles and nine RBIs, while Tezak is hitting .410 with 15 of his 27 RBIs in that stretch. Another Husker who is swinging a hot stick lately is left fielder Andy Gerch, as the junior is hitting .400 with five doubles and eight RBIs during a current eight-game hit streak. Gerch turned in multi-hit efforts in all four games last week, including a pair of doubles in Friday’s series-opening win.

Iowa comes to town with a 13-9 record after taking 2-of-3 against Penn State over the weekend. The Hawkeyes, coached by former Creighton coach Jack Dahm, dropped the opener on Friday, but rallied for wins in the final two games, including a 6-2 win on Sunday. Iowa is hitting .314 as a team with six regulars above the .300 mark. Travis Sweet paces UI with a .393 average with 21 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. The Hawkeyes won the first meeting of the season on March 4 in Deland, Fla., rallying from an 8-0 deficit for a 12-8 win. It was the second straight time a Husker game against Iowa was decided on the last at-bat, as NU pulled out a 16-14 win in 13 innings last season.
