Lincoln- The NCAA sent out its invitations for the women's gymnastics regional championships on Monday afternoon, setting the six-team field at the NCAA West Regional hosted by the University of California at the Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif., on Saturday, April 14 at 8 p.m. (CST).
Nebraska, which is 19-4 on the season and ranked sixth nationally, will face No. 7 Utah, No. 18 Missouri, Washington, SacramentoState and California. Regional competition will also include five all-around competitors and one individual event specialist per event. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (not part of an advancing team) will receive an automatic berth to the 2007 NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Utah in Salt Lake City., April 26-28.
As the regional's No. 1 seed, Nebraska will open the meet on bars, followed by beam, bye, floor, vault, bye. Utah, which is seeded second, will compete in Olympic order with vault, bye, bars, beam, bye, floor.
Junior Emily Parsons, the 2007 Big 12 Co-Gymnast of the Year and seven-time conference champion, will lead the Huskers into the West Regional after NU captured its eighth Big 12 team championship last Saturday in Columbia, Mo. Senior Michele Zabawa was also crowned conference bars champion, and seven Nebraska gymnasts earned a total of 11 All-Big 12 honors.
